Support & Advocacy

Good Shepherd Cork’s Support and Advocacy service works with families and single people as they transition from living in B&B or emergency accommodation to independent living. We provide a client-led service tailored to individual needs and goals. We provide a range of emotional and practical supports visiting clients in their homes or meeting at other venues in the community.

The Support and Advocacy team assist clients with a range of issues such as budgeting; education; parenting; referral to other services; promoting independent living skills and tenancy sustainment. We also support clients with addiction issues and mental and physical wellbeing. We provide both one to one and group support offering a range of social courses and activities such as WRAP, DVD Nights and coffee mornings.

The Support and Advocacy service works across Cork City and County. We are a small team of six people. We are available Monday – Thursday from 09:30 – 17:30 and Friday from 09:30 – 16:30. On average we support 120 families and single people each month.

Wellness Recovery Action Plan, or WRAP

WRAP is used throughout our services as a support to overcome the daily challenges of living. Staff are trained in the delivery of this programme and use it to inform and inspire their professional practice.

WRAP training helps participants to identify their personal strengths and resources and to gain experience and aspiration beyond the chaos in which they live.

Participants design a “Wellness Toolbox” and develop Action Plans to enable them to deal with challenging situations and to maintain wellness on a day to day basis.
