Manager – Riverview

Applications are sought for the position of Manager of Riverview, residential care for teenage girls, a project of Good Shepherd Cork.

Riverview provides accommodation and support for teenage girls (16 – 17 years) who are out of home and for young women (18 – 19 years) out of home or moving out of residential care settings.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of the service and will be part of the management team of Good Shepherd Cork.

This position will involve working 39 hrs per week (a 32 hour arrangement could be considered). Some flexibility will be required around working hours and some out of hours on-call will be required.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Recognised professional qualification in social care
  • Experience working in a management / leadership role
  • A minimum of five years post qualification experience
  • Professional and caring approach to working with vulnerable children and young women.

The candidate should be compassionate and highly motivated. The candidate should be able to provide leadership, planning and direction for all aspects of the service at Riverview.

The role will require strong capacity for informed decision-making and excellent interpersonal networking, teambuilding and supportive skills. The candidate must be able to contribute to the planning and development of the service.

The successful candidate will be committed to the ethos and mission of Good Shepherd Cork and will be expected to ensure that all aspects of practice in Riverview are informed by the ethos and mission.

Introduction:

Good Shepherd Cork runs a residential centre for teenage girls in Cork City – Riverview.

Riverview provides accommodation and support for teenage girls (16 – 17 years) who are out of home and for young women (18 – 19 years) out of home or moving out of residential care settings.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of the service.

Job Purpose Statement:

To lead the effective and efficient management of all aspects of the service at Riverview, in keeping with the ethos, mission and values of Good Shepherd Cork.

Provide leadership and management to the staff team and work to develop and enhance the service to meet the needs of teenage girls and young women who are vulnerable to homelessness.

To contribute to the management and development of Good Shepherd Cork as a member of the GSC management team.

Specific Responsibilities:

 General

  • Provide a quality service that optimises continuity of care.
  • Ensure all residents have a key worker, a formal assessment on arrival and an appropriate care plan – which serves the best needs of the young person.
  • Manage all resources for maximum effect in accordance with allocated budget.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory and legal requirements.
  • Ensure that all documentation is managed in an appropriate and professional manner and that data which is held is in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act and Data Protection requirements.
  • Link with other Unit managers within GSC to provide a seamless service across the organisation.
  • Manage hygiene, maintenance requirements and Health & Safety of the service, ensuring premises are kept safe, clean and tidy at all times.
  • Participate and advocate on behalf of service users in relevant external fora and networks.
  • Prepare an annual business plan for the service.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of organisational plans, including Strategic Plans.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

Human Resources

  • Provide one to one supervision for staff on a regular basis.
  • Ensure an effective and ongoing staff development and training programme is in place.
  • Recruit and induct staff as necessary.
  • Organise shift rosters to achieve efficient staffing levels and work within budgetary constraints.
  • Keep records of staff contracts, annual leave and other absences in line with the staff handbook.

 Funders & Regulation

  • Relationship management with Tusla (core funding agency) and the other agencies from which the service accepts referrals.
  • Ensure accurate and complete record keeping for statutory and other purposes.

Key Requirements and attributes:

  • Recognised professional qualification in social care.
  • A minimum of five years post qualification experience.
  • Experience working in a management / leadership role.
  • Strong decision-making ability.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamworking skills.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to contribute to planning and development of the service.
